Stanford University recently released its “World’s Top 2% Scientists” ranking for 2023, amongst which 35 Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) scholars were named. This highlights the university's strong capabilities and international influence in the field of academic research, reaffirming its outstanding performance and continuous progress in scientific research.
The “World’s Top 2% Scientists” ranking uses Scopus data from Elsevier, metrics include Total Citations, H Index etc. to evaluate scientists across the globe, with the combined results categorized into "Lifetime Scientific Impact Ranking" and "Annual Scientific Impact Ranking". Amongst millions of scientists evaluated, 35 researchers from KMU are honored across the two rankings, showcasing their outstanding research achievements and contributions in their respective field of interest.
KMU scholars selected came from 5 broad fields and 20 subfields – a testament to KMU’s diverse and strong research capabilities. These fields include Clinical Medicine, Biomedical Research, Chemistry, Enabling and Strategic Technologies, and Public Health. Notably, several KMU senior leaders were included on the list, including President Yu Ming-Lung (余明隆), former Presidents Yu Hsin-Su (余幸司) and Yang Chun-Yuh (楊俊毓), Vice President for Research and Development Hsu Ya-Ling (許雅玲), Vice President for Office of Industry-Academia Collaboration Chang Fang-Rong (張芳榮), Dean of College of Dental Medicine Jeng Jiiang-Huei (鄭景暉), and Dean of College of Nursing Lee Bih-O (李碧娥). Above all, Professor Yu Hsing-Su ranked second in Taiwan for "Lifetime Scientific Impact Ranking" in Dermatology, and Professor Yang Chun-Yu placed first in Toxicology in both rankings.
The outstanding performance of these scholars not only highlights KMU's expertise across various professional fields but also reflects the university's sustained efforts in promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, international research development, and innovation. KMU continuously invests resources, nurtures talent, and actively expands cross-disciplinary and international collaborations, establishing a solid foundation for research advancement.
