On the 20th of October, Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) hosted a spirited “Let’s Ride! 70-Kilometer Cycling Challenge for 70th Anniversary” cycling event, as part of a series of celebrations for its 70th anniversary. The challenge was led by Chairmen Eric K. Chen (陳建志), President Yu Ming-Lung (余明隆) and senior leadership from KMU’s affiliated hospitals. This ride, involving 70 participants, symbolized KMU’s dedication to health, resilience, and sustainability, aligning with both the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Taiwan’s Pathway to Net-Zero Emissions in 2050 initiative.
The participants included members of KMU’s Board of Trustees, as well as faculties and staff from KMU and its affiliated hospitals. The route stretched 70 kilometers, stopping at key KMU-affiliated hospitals: Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital, Kaohsiung Municipal Da-Tung Hospital, Kaohsiung Municipal CiJin Hospital, Kaohsiung Municipal Siaogang Hospital and Kaohsiung Medical University Gangshan Hospital, before returning to KMU. Each stop represented KMU’s longstanding dedication to medical education and community health, as well as its mission to foster talent, wellbeing and public service, inspiring everyone to remember the university’s founding values. Through this journey, KMU reaffirmed its role as a healthcare leader committed to serving the community and advancing public health.
Aligned with SDGs 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and 13 (Climate Action), this low-carbon cycling event promoted a sustainable, eco-friendly lifestyle. By organizing this cycling challenge, KMU not only celebrated its 70-year legacy but also contributed to the global effort toward a sustainable, net-zero future.
