Silent Transmission of Great Love: KMU Memorial Ceremony Pays Tribute to Body Donors

Kaohsiung Medical University held the Human Body and Organ Donation Memorial Ceremony on July 2, 2026, to pay the highest respect to body donors (silent mentors), organ donors, and individuals who contributed through pathological donations, while also expressing gratitude to their families for their profound generosity.

President Ming-Lung Yu stated that outstanding medical professionals must not only possess clinical competence, but also cultivate a deep humanistic understanding of care and compassion for life. What students learn from silent mentors goes far beyond anatomical knowledge—it is a profound respect for life, empathy for patients, and a sense of mission they will carry throughout their future medical careers.

For many medical students, silent mentors serve as one of the most important guides in their professional formation. Through dissection courses, students begin by observing and understanding human anatomy, gradually developing clinical reasoning and professional foundations, while learning to approach life with humility.

A second-year dentistry student, Ms. Liu, shared that only after entering the anatomy laboratory did she truly realize that medicine is not merely about textbook knowledge, but about individuals who once lived full lives—people with names, stories, and families who deeply miss them.

KMU emphasized that silent mentors, organ donors, and pathological donors, in their different forms, collectively support medical education and the advancement of healthcare. Their contributions continue to deepen life education within professional training and shape healthcare professionals with stronger humanistic values and compassion.
